If you hope to become the finest leader, possible, it's important to realize and recognize, there will always be, some obstacles, thrown in your path, along the way. The winner will perceive these as challenges, to overcome, while the loser, or lesser one, will only see, problems! Obviously, successful leadership requires a high degree of personal and professional endurance, and persistence! Great leaders must ENDURE, and maintain their commitment, to finding the best options, rather than giving - in, to the temptation, to take a path of least resistance! With that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, what this means and represents, and why it is a necessity, for effectively, leading!
1. Empathy; emphasis: Never assume you know, or have, all the answers. Listen effectively, and learn, from every conversation and experience, in order to proceed with the utmost degree of genuine, meaningful empathy! Only in this way, will one's emphasis, be properly placed, in order to determine, and identify, the best course of action!
2. Needs: Leading is about serving and representing one's group, and stakeholders, instead of any personal/ political agenda, and/ or, self - interest! When one knows, appreciates, and understands the needs, and places his focus, appropriately, he becomes a finer leader!
3. Deliberate; delve deeply; discover; deliver: Don't rush into a hasty, temporarily convenient decision, and/ or, path, but, rather, carefully, and deliberately, consider the bigger - picture! Delve deeply into, the options and alternatives, in order to clearly, discover, the best way, to proceed! One only becomes a real leader, when he delivers on his promises, rather than merely, making empty ones!
4. Urgent; uses; useful; usual/ unusual: Clearly differentiate, urgent priorities, and issues, from the petty stuff! One leads, when he introduces useful, well - considered strategies, and plans, and uses the finest tools, available! Leading means addressing, and overcoming, both, the usual, as well as unusual needs, stresses and strains, in a well - considered, deliberate, planned way, without over - reacting!
5. Relevant; reliable; responsive; responsible; realistic; reasoning/ reasons: Be certain, your ideas focus on relevant necessities, and you, provide, truly reliable leadership, consistently! Be responsive, without stress, and strains, and proceed, in a responsible, realistic manner! Be willing to clearly articulate your reasoning, in an inspiring, motivating way, to bring people together, for the common/ greater good! Know your personal reasons, and have the patience, and necessary endurance, consistently!
6. Energy; energize; excellence: Will you have the personal energy, which energizes others, towards a meeting - of - the - minds, for the greater good? Demand your utmost degree of personal excellence, rather than accepting, good - enough!
Do you have, what it takes, to ENDURE. while others, fail to maintain this quality? Are you ready for effective leadership?
